Jeff Bezos Advances Space Industry with Blue Origin and Amazon Leo
Jeff Bezos has invested over $5.5 billion in Blue Origin, which will launch its New Glenn rocket in January 2025. Blue Origin's lunar lander, Blue Moon, will facilitate water resource mining on the Moon, supporting future colonies.

Blue Origin aims to launch the New Glenn rocket successfully in January 2025, designed to carry up to 45 tons to low Earth orbit. The company has secured contracts with U.S. Space Force and Eutelsat, among others, including Amazon for Project Amazon Leo, which plans to deploy over 3,000 satellites for broadband internet, competing with SpaceX's Starlink.
NASA has contracted Blue Origin for $3.4 billion to develop a lunar lander for Artemis V, intended to enable future lunar resource extraction. Bezos envisions large space colonies, inspired by physicist Gerard O'Neill, as a long-term solution for humanity's energy needs, contrasting with plans to colonize Mars. This dual strategy positions Bezos against Elon Musk in both space transport and satellite internet markets.
