Johannesburg Faces Extended Water Supply Crisis Amid Infrastructure Failures
Johannesburg residents experience severe water shortages due to failing infrastructure and inadequate investment. The crisis affects a wide range of suburbs, highlighting systemic issues within the city's water supply management.

Johannesburg's water supply crisis has left many areas without running water for several days, primarily due to ageing infrastructure and operational failures at Rand Water facilities. Key issues include burst mains, pump failures associated with load shedding, and low reservoir levels.
Affected regions include Soweto, Orlando, Randburg, and Midrand, with some residents facing up to 72 hours without water. Emergency crews are working on numerous repair incidents, but the backlog remains significant. The City of Johannesburg's Executive Mayor has proposed a capital expenditure plan to address these infrastructure challenges, although concerns persist regarding budget limitations and procurement delays that may hinder effective implementation.
