Lazelle, with 38 years of experience, will oversee the newly unified Public Utility Department, merging the Wilmington Water Department and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The reorganization aims to streamline operations and improve resource sharing. Current projects include ensuring no lead in drinking water and infrastructure upgrades, such as a sewer project on East Main Street. Billing for water and sewer services has been combined for user convenience.
