Karnataka Installs India's First Commercial Quantum Computer at IIIT-Dharwad
Karnataka has launched India's first commercial quantum computer at the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Dharwad, reinforcing the state's commitment to advancing quantum technology. The initiative includes plans to expand quantum systems significantly and establish a Centre of Excellence in Quantum AI and Computing. Additionally, ZWEEC introduced biomonitoring technology aimed at improving water safety in rural areas through potential collaboration with local authorities.

Karnataka has installed India's first commercial quantum computer at the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Dharwad (IIIT-Dharwad), marking a significant milestone in the state's quantum technology initiatives. The project aims to strengthen Karnataka's position in advanced quantum technologies.
Minister Priyank Kharge held meetings with QpiAI and ZWEEC to discuss technology solutions and infrastructure development. QpiAI plans to expand its quantum systems from 25 qubits to a 1,000-qubit quantum computer in the next two to three years.
Additionally, a Centre of Excellence in Quantum AI and Computing will be established at IIIT-Dharwad. In a separate initiative, ZWEEC presented its biomonitoring technology for water safety, which may be piloted in partnership with the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department to enhance monitoring in rural areas. These efforts reflect Karnataka's commitment to collaborating with technology firms to address contemporary challenges.
