Kendal Market Hall Upgrades to Achieve Carbon Reduction Goals
Kendal Market Hall has completed a £1.75 million decarbonisation project, installing an air source heat pump to replace gas boilers. This initiative is part of Westmorland and Furness Council's strategy to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2037, supported by national funding for public sector upgrades.

The recent decarbonisation project at Kendal Market Hall, costing £1.75 million, involved replacing gas boilers with an air source heat pump. This upgrade contributes to the council's goal of achieving carbon net zero by 2037, projected to save approximately 343.2 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually.
Additional upgrades are planned for Appleby Leisure Centre, which will also receive an air source heat pump, while Kendal Leisure Centre and South Lakeland House are slated for improvements later this year. Funding has been secured through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and other sources, demonstrating effective financial planning and partnership across multiple projects. The ongoing regeneration efforts in Kendal will further enhance public facilities and contribute to local sustainability goals.
