Kerala Finance Dept. to Fast Track Approval for 190MLD Water Treatment Plant in Aluva
The Kerala Finance department will expedite approval for a 190MLD water treatment plant by the Kerala Water Authority in Aluva, benefiting multiple municipalities and grama panchayats in Ernakulam. Funded by the Asian Development Bank, the project aims to address acute water shortages in the region. Additional approvals are sought for enhancing water supply capacity and constructing a new storage tank.

The Kerala Finance department will fast track the approval for a 190 million litres per day (MLD) water treatment plant in Aluva, funded by the Asian Development Bank. This project will benefit Kochi Corporation and five municipalities, along with 13 grama panchayats in Ernakulam.
A high-level meeting led by Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine addressed the water shortage crisis in the district. A Cabinet approval is also being sought for increasing water pumping capacity from the Aluva pump house by 10 MLD. Additionally, plans to construct a storage tank to replace a collapsed one at the Thammanam pump house were discussed, alongside utilizing an unused overhead tank in Vaduthala to improve water supply.
