Knysna municipality has committed nearly R36m to emergency water augmentation projects, transitioning from crisis management to structural interventions. Central to this effort is the Emergency Groundwater Supply Project, including the R4.5m Knysna Borehole Refurbishment Programme.
Renovations of critical pump stations at Akkerkloof, Gouna, Charlesford, Eastford, and Glebe are ongoing to ensure water distribution reliability. A proposed emergency pumping scheme and a borehole drilling program funded by a Water Services Infrastructure Grant are set to expand water sources.
Medium-term projects related to the PG Bison borehole system could cost millions. Provincial government will provide support through a Section 154 plan, sending engineers to assist with infrastructure repairs. This comprehensive approach aims to secure long-term water stability for Knysna.
