Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue Expands Fleet with Three New Wildfire Trucks
Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire and Rescue has acquired three Type 5 Wildfire Trucks to enhance wildfire response capabilities. This investment aims to improve safety and efficiency in managing wildfire incidents in the region.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue (KBRFR) has added three Type 5 Wildfire Trucks to its fleet, funded by approximately $396,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust's Small Community Wildfire grant. These trucks, designed for the wildland/urban interface, will be stationed in Rossland, Trail, and Fruitvale, enhancing the region's capacity to respond to wildfires and medical emergencies.
KBRFR has responded to 165 wildfires over the past five years and continues to improve its capabilities with all 83 firefighters trained to Wildland Firefighter I standards. Additional funding of $345,000 from the Columbia Basin Trust in 2024 and 2025 supported the acquisition of personal protective gear and wildfire response equipment. The new trucks feature a 105 USGPM pump, a 400 USG water tank, and various firefighting tools.
