Ladakh Launches Major Ecological and Energy Projects Under LG Saxena's 100-Day Review
Ladakh is advancing significant ecological initiatives, including the construction of irrigation ponds and a geothermal energy project, under Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena's administration. These efforts aim to enhance water conservation, restore barren land, and improve green cover in the region.

Ladakh's administration is implementing crucial ecological projects, including four irrigation ponds that will empower approximately 800 acres of barren land. One pond has commenced operations, with the remaining three expected to be completed within a month, directly addressing local water scarcity.
The 'Green Ladakh' campaign has led to the planting of over 35,000 local species, targeting a green cover increase from less than 1% to 5%. Additionally, a major ecological restoration project in Spituk village aims to reclaim nearly 800 acres of degraded land using a low-cost freshwater engineering model. The region is also launching its first commercial geothermal energy exploration project, marking a significant shift towards sustainable energy sources.
