Landslide at Uttarakhand Hydroelectric Project Tunnel Results in Fatalities and Rescues
A landslide in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, has led to the deaths of at least three workers and injuries to 11 others at THDC's Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with 16 out of 22 workers successfully evacuated.

A landslide occurred on Thursday at an under-construction tunnel of THDC’s Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project in Chamoli, resulting in three fatalities and 11 injuries. Rescue operations, supported by NDRF and SDRF, have successfully evacuated 16 workers so far, while efforts continue to reach the remaining individuals trapped inside.
District authorities, police, and military personnel are coordinating the rescue efforts. Injured workers have been transported to the District Hospital in Chamoli. The incident underscores the risks associated with construction in geologically unstable regions, potentially impacting timelines and safety protocols for ongoing projects.
