Launch of Genesis Mission Aims to Transform U.S. Scientific Research
The Department of Energy has initiated the Genesis Mission with a $293 million funding opportunity to enhance U.S. scientific research and engineering capabilities through AI. This initiative seeks to accelerate advancements in fusion energy, materials science, and power grid optimization.

The Genesis Mission, launched by the Department of Energy (DOE), aims to revolutionize U.S. scientific research by leveraging AI and advanced computing capabilities. It includes a $293 million Request for Application (RFA), inviting interdisciplinary teams to develop solutions for 26 national challenges related to advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, and energy.
Phase I awards range from $500,000 to $750,000, while Phase II awards can reach up to $15 million. The initiative is designed to improve efficiency in nuclear energy permitting and enhance electric grid applications.
AI solutions are expected to reduce document development time by up to 50%, significantly lowering costs and accelerating timelines for energy projects. The mission reflects broader goals to strengthen American leadership in science and manufacturing.
