Launch of Strategy for Post Exascale Initiative Unites 23 Organizations in Europe
The Strategy for Post Exascale (SPE) project has commenced, involving 23 organizations to enhance Europe's computing capabilities. This initiative, spanning from 2026 to 2029, focuses on integrating High-Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Quantum Computing to position Europe as a leader in the post-Exascale landscape.

Launched on June 10, 2026, the Strategy for Post Exascale (SPE) is a collaborative effort of 23 organizations, funded by the Horizon Europe program with a €2.5 million EU contribution. The project, which began in April 2026, aims to create a dynamic European roadmap for the convergence of HPC, AI, and Quantum Computing Systems from 2026 to 2029, identifying gaps in research and innovation while fostering cross-domain collaboration.
SPE will produce policy papers and engage a Community of Practice to align strategic priorities and mobilize stakeholders. Its initial vision is expected by September 2026, with continuous updates planned. This initiative is critical for ensuring Europe’s leadership in technological advancements and addressing future computing needs.
