Liferaft has finalized a 10-year agreement with Microsoft to deliver one million carbon removal units (CRUs), facilitated by Supercritical. The CRUs will be produced at Liferaft's biochar facilities in Iowa and Illinois, sourcing agricultural and municipal biomass for processing via pyrolysis.
The biochar will be combined with compost for agricultural use, enhancing soil health and sequestering carbon. The project incorporates robust monitoring and verification to ensure compliance with Microsoft's standards and aims to deliver economic benefits to local communities while supporting climate action.
