LTTE Opens Sluice Gates Amid Ongoing Conflict in Sri Lanka
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) opened sluice gates in Maavilaru, despite heavy artillery fire from Sri Lankan forces. This action follows a counter-offensive by the LTTE and raises humanitarian concerns amidst ongoing military tensions.

On Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., the LTTE, led by Trincomalee District Political Head S. Elilan, opened the sluice gates in Maavilaru, a maneuver intended as a goodwill gesture amidst artillery fire from Sri Lankan forces.
This conflict escalated with a recent LTTE counter-offensive against Sri Lankan military operations. The Sri Lanka Army had previously aimed to capture Maavilaru within 24 hours, disregarding SLMM efforts for peaceful resolutions.
Concurrently, displaced individuals are being allowed limited access to inspect damage to their plantations caused by military actions, with strict regulations for entry. Humanitarian efforts continue as the HDU reports removal of landmines in various regions, while concerns about the destruction of agricultural resources persist.
