Macron Announces 'Free France' as Name for New Nuclear-Powered Aircraft Carrier
French President Emmanuel Macron announced the name 'Free France' for the upcoming nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, during a visit to Nantes. The carrier, set to enter service in 2038 at a cost of nearly 10 billion euros, aims to enhance France's maritime capabilities and reinforce its defense industry. It will replace the Charles de Gaulle, featuring a displacement of approximately 77,000 tonnes.

President Emmanuel Macron announced on March 18 that France's new nuclear-powered aircraft carrier will be named 'Free France.' The carrier, scheduled to enter service in 2038, will cost nearly 10 billion euros and aims to strengthen France's defense capabilities and reduce military dependence.
It is intended to replace the current carrier, Charles de Gaulle, which was commissioned in 2001 and has a displacement of about 42,000 tonnes. The new vessel will have a displacement of approximately 77,000 tonnes and is expected to create jobs and support domestic companies in the defense sector.
