Macroom Seeks Restoration of Key Water Features Ahead of Tidy Towns Judging
Restoration calls for Macroom's Spirit of Macroom and water pump features have emerged as the town prepares for Tidy Towns judging in June. Local officials aim to secure funding to restore these community landmarks to maintain the town's Gold Medal status.

Local leaders in Macroom are advocating for the restoration of two significant water features, the Spirit of Macroom and a historic water pump, ahead of the Tidy Towns judging in June. Although the water pump was repaired last year, it is currently non-operational, while the Spirit of Macroom feature, sponsored by Dermot Desmond in the 1990s, is also out of service and in disrepair.
Councillor Martin Coughlan raised these concerns at a recent council meeting, urging for funding options to address the issues. The Macroom Municipal District officer indicated she would explore available funding sources for these restorations. The local Tidy Towns volunteers aim to uphold their Gold Medal recognition from the previous competitions, highlighting the importance of these features to the community's image.
