Malaysia Launches Pineapple Sugar and Organic Fertilizer at MAHA 2026
Pinasweet and LiqoFas, new products from Malaysian pineapple waste, enhance sustainability in the agri-food sector. Their development supports the circular economy and aligns with the goals of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) has introduced two new products: Pinasweet, a natural sweetener with a low glycaemic index (GI), and LiqoFas, an organic liquid fertilizer derived from pineapple waste. Their launch occurred during the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition (MAHA) 2026.
Pinasweet is developed in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and contains a GI of 26-28, while LiqoFas is made from low-grade pineapples and utilizes microbial fermentation technology. Both products exemplify the outcomes of the Innovative Pineapple Product Development Programme, which received RM4 million in funding under the 12MP. This initiative underpins a circular economy by converting agricultural waste into value-added products, promoting sustainable practices within the industry.
