Malaysia's NRES Emphasizes Integrity for Environmental Sustainability Management
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) in Malaysia has stated that integrity is essential for personnel managing national assets. Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup emphasized that decisions impact future generations, advocating for transparency and accountability. Recent initiatives include amending the Environmental Quality Act 1974 for waste management autonomy in Sabah and Sarawak, drafting legislation for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and enhancing the Low-Carbon City initiative with improved emission monitoring.

Recent actions include amending the Environmental Quality Act 1974 to grant waste management powers to Sabah and Sarawak, enhancing federal-state collaboration. The ministry is also drafting legislation for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and strengthening the Low-Carbon City initiative for better emission monitoring.
Additionally, the Ecological Fiscal Transfers Fund incentivizes states to maintain forest reserves. Kurup called for a unified team approach within NRES to ensure effective policy implementation.
