Marin Municipal Water District Acquires Novato Site for Pipeline Pump Station Project
The Marin Municipal Water District has agreed to purchase a 4.5-acre lot in Novato from Navin LLC for $4.8 million to develop a pump station for the atmospheric river capture project. This initiative aims to build a 13-mile pipeline to replenish reservoirs with Sonoma County rainwater during droughts, potentially delivering up to 3,800 acre-feet of water annually. The property purchase will proceed following environmental impact report clearance, with public outreach commencing in February and scoping meetings scheduled for March.

The Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) has signed an agreement to purchase a 4.5-acre site in Novato for $4.8 million to build a pump station as part of the atmospheric river capture project. This project includes a proposed 13-mile pipeline to transport rainwater from Sonoma County to Marin reservoirs, aiming to deliver up to 3,800 acre-feet annually.
The acquisition is contingent upon an environmental impact report clearance. Public outreach begins on February 24, with scoping meetings in March. Additionally, MMWD is negotiating for a second pump station near Stafford Lake, which could increase water replenishment to 8,100 acre-feet. The overall project cost is estimated to rise from $167 million, with a revised design contract expected soon.
