Marinus Link Project Advances with Major Engineering Works in Victoria
Marinus Link is a significant infrastructure initiative connecting Tasmania and Victoria, with a projected cost exceeding $3.5 billion. The project involves extensive community engagement, environmental considerations, and aims to enhance renewable energy transfer between the two states.

The Marinus Link project, which aims to connect Tasmania and Victoria through a nearly 350 km transmission line, has seen its costs escalate to over $3.5 billion. Site preparation is ongoing in Sandy Point, with heavy drilling and cable installation planned to begin by November.
The project requires negotiations with over 90 landholders and three Indigenous groups, with approximately half of the agreements already secured. Marinus Link will utilize two 100-tonne transformers and a high voltage direct current (HVDC) system, with a cable-laying vessel, the Leonardo da Vinci, designated for the subsea installation. With a focus on local workforce engagement, MLPL expects to employ 300-400 workers, predominantly from the region, while preparing for future stages of the project.
