Michigan DNR Faces Setback in Steelhead Egg Collection Due to Power Outage
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources aims to collect 4.6 million steelhead eggs this season despite a recent power failure that resulted in fish losses. The DNR has deployed a backup collection site on the Platte River to mitigate the impact and maintain stocking goals.

The Michigan DNR reported a power outage at the Little Manistee River Weir that resulted in the loss of some fish intended for egg collection. The DNR plans to collect 4.6 million steelhead eggs this season, with 3.7 million designated for Michigan hatcheries and additional eggs for programs in Ohio and Indiana.
A backup collection site has been initiated on the Platte River to supplement egg collection efforts. As of now, the main power source and three pumps have been restored, but one pump requires repair. This incident could hinder future stocking efforts and impact local fisheries reliant on steelhead populations.
