Moroccan SMEs Enhance Decarbonization and Digitalization Ahead of EU Carbon Regulations
A survey by the European Investment Bank reveals that nearly 70% of Moroccan SMEs are advancing decarbonization and digitalization efforts. 48% have implemented initiatives, while 22% actively pursue strategies. With the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism set for 2026, the need for carbon footprint management is critical for competitiveness in concerned sectors. Digital usage is also high, with 79% of SMEs engaged in digital efforts. While most leaders find support mechanisms adequate, there is a strong demand for improvements, particularly in innovation and capacity-building.

SMEs in sectors such as steel and cement risk losing competitiveness without proper carbon management. Concurrently, around 79% report active digitalization efforts, with 22% at very advanced levels. While many leaders consider support mechanisms sufficient, there is significant demand for enhancements in innovation support and capacity-building programs.
