Murwillumbah to Enhance Flood Resilience with New $2.85M Pump Station
A $2.85 million flood pumping station is being built in Murwillumbah to reduce flooding impacts. This initiative is part of a broader $15.5 million flood mitigation program funded by the NRRRP.

Construction of a $2.85 million flood pumping station at George Street in Murwillumbah is in progress, aimed at mitigating flood risks in the area. The station will include two high-capacity pumps with a combined stormwater discharge capability of nearly 1,500 litres per second.
This project is part of a $15.5 million flood mitigation initiative which encompasses six upgrades, supported by the Northern Rivers Recovery and Resilience Program (NRRRP). The upgrades include improvements to existing pump stations and enhancements in low-lying urban areas.
Completion of the Lavender Creek pump station is expected later this year, while Wharf Street's upgrades will conclude in 2027. These facilities are designed to effectively manage localized flooding, thus aiding recovery post-extreme weather events.
