National Clean Cooking Initiative Targets 30,000 Households with Carbon Financing
The Department of Energy plans a nationwide rollout of electric cooking solutions for 30,000 households, contingent on funding. This initiative aims to reduce reliance on LPG and enhance energy efficiency through carbon financing and subsidies.

The Department of Energy is initiating a program to distribute electric cooking solutions to 30,000 households, with funding dependent on carbon finance. The program aims to mitigate reliance on conventional fuels and improve energy efficiency, amidst increasing LPG consumption and global supply disruptions.
A pilot of IoT-enabled induction cookstoves has been implemented across 650 households, with plans to extend clean cooking solutions to 180 highland households. Challenges remain due to higher costs for e-cookstoves, particularly for low-income families.
The department is considering subsidies and a technology swap mechanism to facilitate adoption. Local manufacturing support and safety standards development are also under exploration. Achieving comprehensive access to cleaner cooking solutions will significantly rely on carbon market financing.
