NEC Initiates Development of Asia's First Orbital Transfer Vehicle with JAXA Funding
NEC Corporation has launched a project to develop an Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV), aiming for Asia's first deployment. This initiative, funded by JAXA, seeks to enhance satellite mobility and reduce barriers to space access, potentially transforming the region's space economy.

NEC Corporation is developing an Orbital Transfer Vehicle (OTV) under a grant from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to achieve Asia's first OTV deployment. The OTV will transport satellites to their operational orbits post-launch, allowing smaller satellites to access distant orbits without large engines.
The project aims to enhance transportation efficiency and promote new operators in the space sector. With over 50 years of spacecraft development experience, NEC plans to conduct feasibility studies and design concepts by the end of 2027, followed by prototype development in 2028 and in-space demonstrations in 2032. The initiative has the potential to advance Japan's space industry and encourage exploration of new frontiers.
