New IBA Processing Plant Operational in Ireland
Eggersmann has launched a new IBA processing facility at Knockharley Landfill, designed to process over 120,000 tonnes annually. This plant aims to enhance metal recovery efficiency from incinerator bottom ash, addressing a growing market demand for improved recycling methods.

Eggersmann's new processing facility at Knockharley Landfill, north of Dublin, is engineered to handle 59 tonnes per hour, translating to over 120,000 tonnes of incinerator bottom ash annually. The plant's design features an impact mill for crushing sintered bottom ash, enabling the release of metals, with a focus on both ferrous and non-ferrous recovery across various size classes.
A key operational factor includes pre-processing storage and drying of bottom ash for two to three weeks, resulting in a residual moisture content of 16 to 19 percent. The upgraded system aims to minimize maintenance needs and downtime, reflecting industry trends toward comprehensive metal recovery and automation. Potential risks include the operational challenges of adapting to the higher throughput and abrasive nature of the material.
