New Plant Species Nymphanthus vietnamensis Discovered in Phong Dien Nature Reserve, Vietnam

CARBON CAPTURE

A new plant species, Nymphanthus vietnamensis, was discovered by Phong Dien Nature Reserve in Vietnam during biodiversity monitoring in 2025, as confirmed by Mr. Le Van Huong, the reserve's director. The identification was published in Phytotaxa.

The reserve, covering 40,760.47 hectares, was established by the Hue City People's Committee in August 2025. Its objectives include protecting lowland forest ecosystems, safeguarding biodiversity, and enhancing forest environmental services. The reserve is home to rare species, including the saola and yellow-cheeked gibbon, and aims to promote green growth and carbon sequestration.
