New Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme Advances After Resolving Land Issues
The New Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme has progressed significantly after resolving land disputes, with construction currently at 30% completion. PHE Minister Marcuise Marak announced that the dam is under construction and is expected to be finished by next year, with the project budgeted at Rs 538.44 crore to initially supply 33 million liters of water per day to the township and 32 surrounding villages, eventually expanding to 70 MLD. Advanced technologies, including a SCADA system and IoT, will ensure efficient monitoring and leak detection.

The New Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme has made significant progress after overcoming land disputes that delayed the project. PHE Minister Marcuise Marak inspected the site at Nongkhali Village and confirmed that construction is underway, with the overall physical progress at 30%.
The dam construction has started and is expected to be completed by next year, followed by work on the jackwell pump. The scheme, which has received administrative approval with a budget of Rs 538.44 crore under the State Plan, aims to supply 33 million liters per day initially, with a future capacity of 70 MLD, serving the New Shillong Township and 32 surrounding villages. A SCADA system and IoT technology will facilitate automated monitoring of water flow and detection of leaks.
