Nigeria's Maritime Potential Remains Underutilized, Says CILT
Nigeria's maritime capabilities are not fully realized, despite its strategic geographical advantages. The country has significant cargo flow potential but lacks the conversion of this advantage into maritime power.

Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Nigeria, highlighted that Nigeria, while a maritime nation, has not yet become a maritime power. The country boasts approximately 853 kilometers of Atlantic coastline and is bordered by the Gulf of Guinea, but still faces challenges in utilizing its resources effectively.
The Port of Lagos and other ports like Onne, Calabar, and the emerging Lekki deep seaport are critical assets yet to be fully leveraged. He emphasized a need for structural, systemic, and interrelated solutions, particularly through digitalization and port automation to enhance Nigeria’s maritime capabilities. The conference aims to address these challenges and explore future trends.
