NIIMBL Funds Vector Production and AI Training Initiatives
The U.S. National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) is funding 39 projects to enhance viral vector production and develop an AI-ready workforce in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. These initiatives aim to bolster production capabilities and address talent shortages in the industry.

NIIMBL has awarded funding to 39 projects focused on viral vector production and workforce training aimed at enhancing biopharmaceutical manufacturing in the U.S. Key projects include the development of an aqueous two-phase continuous vector purification system at Michigan Technological University and improved purification materials at North Carolina State University.
Additionally, MIT will collaborate with industry partners to reduce the production of empty viral capsids during vector manufacturing. Workforce initiatives will include Texas A&M's NeuroPipes project, targeting neurodiverse individuals for careers in biomanufacturing, and the BioPATH consortium led by Wistar Institute, focusing on advancing training in biomanufacturing and automation. These efforts are critical as the industry faces increasing demand for skilled professionals.
