NML-JSR Initiates Training for Environmentally Friendly E-Waste Metal Extraction
The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory has launched a training program for master trainers focusing on e-waste recycling. Funded by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the initiative aims to convert e-waste into secondary resources and promote sustainable practices in the informal sector.

The CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in Jamshedpur has begun a week-long training program for master trainers, aimed at educating informal sector workers on environmentally friendly e-waste recycling. Sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the initiative seeks to create 50 master trainers to support 15,000 informal operators in upgrading their skills and practices.
The training will cover the recovery of metals like copper and gold from printed circuit boards. There is a need to address the environmental risks associated with unregulated e-waste processing, which currently poses significant ecological threats in various regions. The program intends to facilitate MSME cluster formation to enhance operational capabilities sustainably.
