Northampton County Council Reviews River Pointe LERTA Amidst Recent Tax Abatement Decisions
Northampton County Council is considering repealing the LERTA for River Pointe Logistics, originally established in 2018. This follows the rejection of a TIF for the Dixie Cup project, indicating a shift in the council's approach to tax incentives and economic development.
Northampton County Council is exploring the potential repeal of the Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance (LERTA) for River Pointe Logistics, which has been in effect since 2018. This initiative, which covers a 10-year period, has already received approvals from both the township and the Bangor Area School District.
The council's deliberation follows a rejection of a TIF proposal for the Dixie Cup project. County Executive Lamont G. McClure is advocating for limits on property tax breaks related to the River Pointe development.
A public hearing is scheduled for May 21 to discuss possible repeal actions. Development at River Pointe has encountered delays due to litigation, with previous plans for an Amazon data center not materializing.
