Northeastern University Opens AI Hub in London to Enhance European Research Partnerships
Northeastern University has launched a research hub in London through its Institute for Intelligent Networked Systems to strengthen European partnerships in artificial intelligence and wireless communications. The hub, led by professors Bipin Rajendran and Osvaldo Simeone, aims to advance AI hardware projects with IBM, explore AI behavior in applications like ChatGPT, and develop technologies for large language models, alongside neuromorphic and quantum computing initiatives. The opening event included a conference to foster collaboration with European experts.

Northeastern University's Institute for Intelligent Networked Systems has opened a research hub in London to expand its European partnerships in artificial intelligence (AI) and wireless communications. Since its establishment in 2019, the institute has secured 68 patents and formed over 30 industry partnerships, with a focus on improving wireless communication technologies.
The London hub, led by professors Bipin Rajendran and Osvaldo Simeone, is set to advance projects with IBM on AI hardware and investigate AI behavior in applications like ChatGPT and Gemini. The hub aims to develop reliable AI and explore neuromorphic and quantum computing.
It will also work on a project funded by the U.K. Advanced Research and Invention Agency to create accelerators for large language models. The London launch included a conference to promote collaboration with European experts.
