Northern Arctic University Launches Diamond Synthesis Laboratory Using CVD Method

QUANTUM COMPUTING

Northern Arctic Federal University in Arkhangelsk has established a diamond synthesis laboratory using the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method to create diamonds from carbon gas. Scientists introduce nitrogen during the growth process to develop nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers, enhancing the diamonds' functional properties.

These synthetic diamonds are applicable in quantum computing and ultra-precise sensors. The growth rate is limited to several microns per hour, producing thin plates necessary for the desired experimental centers. The laboratory plans to connect to a cylinder with ultrapure nitrogen to improve the synthesis process.
