Northrop Grumman Seeks Environmental Permit for Waynesboro Manufacturing Facility
Northrop Grumman is pursuing an environmental permit in Virginia for emissions related to its new manufacturing facility in Waynesboro, projected to open in 2026. This facility, covering 87 acres, aims to employ up to 330 individuals and will focus on assembling electronic components for the aerospace sector.

Northrop Grumman has applied for a state operating permit from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for its new facility in Waynesboro. The facility will primarily assemble electronic components, with emissions from volatile organic compounds expected to remain below 250 tons per year for each pollutant.
It will not produce synthetic organic chemicals such as PFAS or PFOA. A HEPA air filtration system and charcoal odor control will mitigate potential odors from polysulfides used in operations. The new facility is essential for enhancing high-volume production capabilities in defense manufacturing.
