Novelis and Maxion Unveil Lightweight Aluminium Housing for EV Batteries
Novelis and Maxion Structural Components have launched Maxion InVolt, an aluminium housing for commercial EV batteries, which is 35% lighter and offers 11% more energy density than traditional materials. This innovation supports the industry’s effort to enhance vehicle efficiency and reduce emissions.

Maxion InVolt, a new aluminium battery housing for commercial electric vehicles, has been developed by Novelis and Maxion Structural Components. This solution utilizes a specially created alloy from stamped, rolled aluminium, achieving a weight reduction of 35% compared to conventional extruded aluminium housings, while increasing energy density by 11%.
The design is adaptable for various vehicle sizes, promoting efficiency across both light and heavy commercial vehicles. The circularity potential of aluminium enhances its sustainability, offering up to a 95% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions through recycling. This advancement may incentivize wider adoption of electric commercial vehicles.
