NTPC Proposes Nuclear Power Plants in Uttar Pradesh with Three Sites Identified
NTPC aims to diversify its energy portfolio by introducing nuclear power in Uttar Pradesh, identifying three potential sites for development. This initiative is part of NTPC's broader strategy to enhance non-fossil fuel capacity to meet rising energy demands and climate goals.

NTPC has proposed to establish nuclear power plants in Uttar Pradesh, identifying Prayagraj, Lalitpur, and Sonbhadra as potential sites. The state government will make final decisions regarding land and water resource allocation after feasibility assessments.
This move supports NTPC's goal to increase its installed capacity to 149 GW by 2032, with 60 GW from non-fossil sources. The company currently operates over 14,000 MW in Uttar Pradesh and is expanding with the 1,600 MW Singrauli Stage III project set for commissioning by 2028. While NTPC's nuclear initiative aligns with India's clean energy transition, challenges such as land acquisition in densely populated areas may pose risks to timely project execution.
