OKI Allocates 3 Billion Yen for Numazu Plant Expansion Amid Rising Underwater Defense Sensor Demand
OKI is investing approximately 3 billion yen to enhance production capacity at its Numazu facility, targeting a 50% increase in output for underwater acoustic sensors by fiscal 2023. This expansion supports both defense and civilian applications, aligning with growing demand in marine-related sectors.

OKI will invest about 3 billion yen ($18.9 million) to construct a new production building at its Numazu plant, set for completion in September 2027. This facility will increase output of sonar, sonobuoys, and underwater acoustic sensors by approximately 50% from fiscal 2023 levels, reinforcing supply for defense and marine applications.
The project reflects a strategic response to a changing security environment and aims to support medium- to long-term growth in defense markets. Additionally, the investment will facilitate dual-use technology applications in marine infrastructure maintenance and environmental monitoring. The building will also feature energy-saving designs, with plans for over 50% energy savings, aligning with ZEB/ZEF standards.
