Oman TRA Urges Telecoms to Diversify into Digital Services for Profit Growth

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman has called on private-sector telecom companies to diversify their investment and develop new revenue streams beyond traditional voice and data services. Eng Omar bin Hamdan al Ismaili, TRA Executive President, stated that innovation is essential for enhancing company profitability and consumer choice.

Oman's telecom market is increasingly adopting digital use-cases, with IoT subscriptions growing to 1.632 million in 2025, up from 356,000 in 2021. Sector revenues rose to RO 961 million in 2025 from RO 768 million in 2021.

Additionally, mobile download speeds increased to 113 Mbps, and fixed download speeds reached 91 Mbps in 2025. The TRA is also focusing on automation and skills development as part of a sustainability agenda, expanding regulations to cover emerging areas like IoT services and cloud computing.
