Oman Unveils National Initiative for Enhanced Oil Recovery Research
Oman's new research initiative aims to maximize oil recovery from mature fields through advanced EOR technologies, aligning with Vision 2040. The program emphasizes collaboration with local SMEs and major operators to enhance hydrocarbon output sustainably.

Oman, through the Research and Innovation Authority and the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, has launched a national initiative for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) aimed at increasing oil extraction from mature fields. The program, titled "Technological Advancements in Enhanced Oil Recovery: A Framework for Maximizing Hydrocarbon Recovery in Oman," will evaluate techniques such as thermal injection and chemical EOR, focusing on CO₂-based EOR linked with carbon capture systems.
Furthermore, it will leverage digital transformation via machine learning and real-time monitoring to optimize production. The initiative seeks to strengthen local industry participation and develop a national EOR database to support investments and technologies suited to Oman's unique geological conditions.
