Only 3% of European Shippers and Logistics Providers Are Not Using AI, Says Descartes Study
A Descartes study reveals that 97% of European shippers and logistics service providers utilize AI for various transport processes, with 41% automating data entry and 37% optimizing routes. The study, conducted in 2025 among 300 decision-makers, shows shippers are more advanced than logistics service providers in AI adoption. Generative AI is also emerging as a strategic priority, with 25% planning to implement these tools to enhance operations.

According to Descartes' 2025 European Transport Management Benchmark Study, only 3% of European shippers and logistics service providers do not use AI in transport management. The study surveyed 300 senior decision-makers, revealing that AI is primarily used for data entry automation (41%), route optimization (37%), load matching (32%), and freight forecasting (29%).
Financially successful companies are more likely to utilize AI for strategic applications. Shippers are more advanced in AI adoption than logistics service providers. Additionally, 25% of respondents prioritize the introduction of generative AI tools to improve operations and customer service.
