Orcadian Energy Advances Offshore Data Center Project with Gas Fields Development
Orcadian Energy plc has initiated the Assessment Phase for the development of the Earlham and Orwell gas fields, aiming to establish an offshore power station with integrated carbon capture to support a co-located data center. This initiative, potentially among the first large-scale offshore data centers in the UK, responds to rising demands for computational power, particularly driven by AI advancements.

Orcadian Energy plc has begun the Assessment Phase for the Earlham and Orwell gas fields under licence P2680. The development plan includes an offshore power station with carbon capture capabilities to supply approximately 200 megawatts of electricity to an adjacent data center.
Estimated methane resources in Earlham are 114 billion cubic feet, while Orwell can contribute an additional 31 billion cubic feet. Orcadian is forming Earlham Gigagrid Ltd to manage the project and intends to transfer its 100% interest in P2680 to this new entity.
The project is subject to approval from the North Sea Transition Authority and other necessary consents. The proposed offshore complex will consist of a wellhead platform, two production wells, and a carbon dioxide injection well, linked to the power station and data center platforms. This strategy could attract third-party investments without diluting existing shareholder interests in other projects.
