Origen Power Demonstrates Successful Operation of Zero-Emission Lime Kiln in North Dakota

CARBON CAPTURE

Origen Power Limited announced the successful testing of its zero-emission lime platform at the Energy & Environmental Research Center in North Dakota. Utilizing proprietary oxyfuel kiln technology, the platform exceeded performance targets, achieving over 99% limestone conversion to lime without burning the material.

This result marks a significant advancement in zero-emission lime production, addressing the carbon-intensive nature of lime manufacturing, which releases nearly one tonne of CO₂ for every tonne produced. The kiln produced a high-purity CO₂ stream, validating its potential for commercial applications.

Origen is collaborating with EPCM partner Hatch to refine engineering and project development, targeting a commercial facility capable of producing up to 300,000 tonnes of lime annually. The project is expected to advance carbon removal strategies in hard-to-abate sectors, with a focus on scalability and operational readiness.
