Orizon Launches CarbonCrop Programme to Advance Regenerative Agriculture in South Africa
Orizon has launched its CarbonCrop Programme, the largest carbon project under Verra's sustainable agriculture methodology, aimed at promoting regenerative agriculture among South African farmers. The initiative allows farmers to earn carbon credits by improving soil health and biodiversity through practices like no-till farming and cover cropping, while Orizon covers initial sampling costs to minimize financial risk. This program seeks to gradually integrate regenerative principles, ensuring both ecological and financial sustainability.

Orizon has registered its CarbonCrop Programme, the largest carbon project under Verra's sustainable agriculture methodology. This initiative supports South African farmers in adopting regenerative agriculture, which focuses on improving soil health and reducing reliance on synthetic inputs.
The program enables farmers to earn carbon credits by enhancing soil carbon levels and biodiversity. Regenerative practices, such as no-till farming and cover cropping, are still uncommon in South Africa, presenting opportunities for carbon credit qualification.
Orizon covers upfront sampling costs, recovering them once carbon credits are sold, thereby minimizing farmer risk. The organization advocates a gradual adoption of regenerative principles to ensure ecological and financial sustainability.
