Panic Buying of Fuel in Mumbai Region Amid No Supply Shortage, Companies Confirm
Panic buying at petrol pumps in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, particularly in Thane and Navi Mumbai, has been reported, though oil companies state there is no fuel shortage. Some stations face supply issues due to a new advance payment system, leading to limited stock for those unable to pay in advance. Several fuel stations in Kalyan, Badlapur, Thane, Koparkhairane, Vashi, and Belapur experienced high demand, with some stations temporarily closing due to perceived shortages.

Panic buying has occurred at petrol pumps across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, especially in Thane and Navi Mumbai, despite oil companies asserting there is no fuel shortage. Issues have arisen at some stations due to a shift to an advance payment system, causing difficulties for dealers who cannot pay upfront.
In areas like Kalyan, Badlapur, and parts of Thane, significant crowds formed as motorists sought to fill their tanks. Two out of 18 fuel stations in Thane reported near shutdowns. Some pumps in Badlapur and Kalyan were closed, citing fuel shortages, although supply is reportedly arriving on alternate days.
