Panteia Reports Limited Administrative Burdens of EU ETS; Recommendations for Improvements
CLIMATE POLICY, REGULATION & CARBON MARKETS
Panteia's study for the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth assessed the administrative burdens of the EU ETS for industry, electricity production, shipping, and aviation. The estimated regulatory costs for 2024 are approximately €21 million for stationary installations, €3.5 million for shipping, and €1.9 million for aviation.
The EU ETS is confirmed as an effective tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The NEa plans to enhance compliance support, improve communication regarding regulations, and explore training opportunities for new contacts. The findings will inform the Netherlands' approach to the ETS directive revision scheduled for 2026.
