Pathways Alliance Estimates $16.5 Billion for Alberta Carbon Capture Project
The Pathways Alliance has projected that Phase 1 of its carbon capture and storage initiative in Alberta will require an investment of $16.5 billion, aiming to capture 10 to 12 million tonnes of the 86 million tonnes emitted annually by the oil sands sector. Additionally, Canadian taxpayers could face costs exceeding $50 billion for the project.

The Pathways Alliance estimates Phase 1 of its carbon capture and storage project will cost $16.5 billion, capturing 10 Mt to 12 Mt of the 86 Mt per year emitted by Alberta oil sands. Canadian taxpayers may incur costs of $50 billion or more.
