PayPal Collaborates with 3Degrees for Carbon Removal Investments
PayPal is investing in high-durability carbon removal projects with 3Degrees, including initiatives in India, to achieve net-zero goals by 2040. This partnership addresses procurement challenges by aggregating demand for carbon credits and diversifying technology exposure.

PayPal has partnered with 3Degrees to facilitate investments in durable carbon removal projects, specifically targeting the Heartyculture Biochar initiative in India. This collaboration aims to tackle the execution risks associated with procuring carbon credits from early-stage projects, particularly in developing regions.
The partnership employs a demand-aggregation strategy to secure capital for agricultural waste-to-biochar projects, helping PayPal progress toward its 2040 net-zero climate goals. By aggregating demand and conducting technical reviews, 3Degrees allows PayPal to purchase smaller quantities of cost-competitive carbon removal credits. This structured approach not only mitigates procurement risks but also provides capital to early-stage developers, potentially influencing corporate sustainability practices in the sector.
