PENNVEST Approves $430,670 Loan and $143,366 Grant for Austin Borough Wastewater Project
PENNVEST has allocated $573,036 for wastewater improvements in Austin Borough, significant for local environmental health. The project will replace existing pump stations with a gravity-fed sewer system, enhancing efficiency and reducing long-term operating costs.

The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved a funding package comprising a $430,670 low-interest loan and a $143,366 grant for Austin Borough's wastewater improvement project. This initiative involves decommissioning current pump stations and constructing about 1,400 feet of new gravity sewer, incorporating new laterals, cleanouts, and related components.
The transition to a gravity-fed system is expected to alleviate the need for grinder pumps, improving efficiency and safety. PENNVEST funds sewer and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania, sourced from federal funds, state bond issues, and the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee, which mitigates financial burdens on local ratepayers.
