Perdue Farms Reports Ammonia Emission Incidents in Milford Facility
Perdue Farms experienced two ammonia leaks in Milford, resulting in hospitalizations. These incidents highlight ongoing compliance challenges with environmental regulations.

Perdue Farms in Milford reported two ammonia release incidents in June, with the first occurring on June 9 due to a refrigeration valve failure, leading to an evacuation but no injuries. The second event happened on June 13, when 68 pounds of anhydrous ammonia escaped due to a failed seal, sending several individuals to the hospital.
The leaks exceeded permitted air limits, raising concerns about regulatory compliance. Following the incidents, repairs were completed and normal operations resumed. The corrosive nature of ammonia poses health risks, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures in industrial environments.
